STARBELLYS UNITED

home of David and Ange's splurbs on Natural/conscious living that affects all aspects of our lives, and other happenings....

Friday, December 19

Work is slowing down. The silly summer season is upon us. The sun is making more of an appearance (yea the sun!' cried the crowd. 'Up with the sun! Down with the moon!').

Christmas doos are ever present (pun intended). Once again I am organising my office floor's secret santa celebration. Why they get the skinny white guy to be santa is beyond me. There's plenty of fatty's here to choose from. anyways.

I watched Love Liza last night and Ned Kelly. RottenTomatoes.com gave Love Liza 55%. I would give it slightly better. "... while each moment of this broken character study is rich in emotional texture, the journey doesn't really go anywhere." -- Sean Axmaker, SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER. I'd have to agree with that. I'd still recommend it though.

Now then, Ned Kelly. RottenTomatoes.com gave it 88%. I expected more from it. This time, the film got you somewhere, but I found it lacked the detail in characters and left me somewhat up-in-the-air as to what it was trying to get across. As far as I know it is based on a true story... so at the end before the credits I was expecting to see a little bit of info as to what happened to some of the characters afterwards... but it never happened. I would give it around 75%.

For you computer geeks out there...yesterday my new video card arrived. Raedon 9800SE. Supposedly I can softmod it to make it a 9800PRO. We'll see about that. Anyways, my old GF4mx440 is now going for cheap cheap (like a bird).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY COUSIN MAFFU! Welcome to the land of 24ianism. Soon you will be an old man smelling like peasoup.

It's Christmas time and it's a good time cause me and Ange went out and got a couple of close friends some gifts the other day. And I can't wait to give them. So lets hope you are one of our cool, non-frumpy, attractive, friends and then you'll get a gift. Ok, so I was joking about the cool-frumpy-attractive thing. The peeps we bought gifts for would probably fall into one or all of those categories anyways, so that just shows you how we don't chick and poose our friends. What I'm trying to say is that I really like buying gifts for friends.

And don't forget... tonight is the night of Holtslag hospitality. Come on round with a plate or drink tonight and we'll sit and watch Eric swim in his fishbowl.

here i am in a internet cafe once again, i would just like to state that the failure of proformance from our home computor is indeed NOT my beloved husbands fault and i am sorry if this was implided by my earlyer posts,

I do feel that the lack of putor workability is crushing the spontanity and thus blocking me from gracing this blog with my presence and thoughts......

So much that it seems that Starbellys is a singular unit and i have no interests or opinions other than that of my husbands which is untrue in many ways. So please forgive my absence and join the almagamation of thoughtful people to remind my man that 'He Is The computor Man' and he can fix our home computor woes and thus reconnect his wife with the blogging community.

Friday, December 12

yesterday I met some people. These were not ordinary people. These were bloggers! People I have communicated with and read about without ever having met them... till now. kookey.

today I leave work at midday (if I get all my work done!) as my team at work is off to Makara for our Christmas doo. It will consist of a bbq and hopefully just enjoying the sun. Sounds right up my alley. The problem is... I have lots of work to do... hmmmm.

Thursday, December 11

One of our fish died yesterday. I'm glad I never named it as it made it's passing easier. I have now named the other unamed fish 'Havoc'. Why? Well I say 'why not!'.

The Dom Post today had a loverly article today about the Embassy theatre here in Wellington. They have done a grand job indeed in doing the old girl up and restoring it to glory. Can't wait to go and see The Return of the King there. Will be a treat indeed.

Wednesday, December 10

It's all booked. Ange and I are going to Nelson on the 27th of Dec, early in the morning. Spending a few days with her parents and then heading out to Golden bay to go to the Visionz festival and then heading back to wellington on the 2nd in time for the National Youth camp that starts on the 3rd. So it will be a busy fun time that we are both really looking forward too.

I think Jeremy Wells should win all the TV awards possible for his show Eating Media Lunch. Quality NZ tv.

We still have not named our two other fish. They look unhappy compared to Eric too. This is the final call for recommendations of names.

Happy birthday Wouter. You old man you... Blessings to you.

Dinner at our place tonight. Come one and all. Bring a plate of food if you have one.

Thursday, December 4

It's been a few days now since my favourite cat, Smoogles, was put to rest. She was 14 years old which is about 74 years old for a human. My mum told me last friday that it was best she be put down (it was on the cards a couple of times this year, so no surprise) so I took the opportunity to go round to mum and dads on saturday to say goodbye to Smoogles. It was a sunny day and that meant she would be resting in the garden in the shade of the plants, which indeed she was. When I called she jumped out of the garden and we spent a few minutes just lying on the grass while she enjoyed me giving her a good old scratch. At first I wasn't sad at all. Now, after a few days, I realise that she's gone and the next time I go round to mum and dads, she won't be jumping out of the garden to come and say hello. I've also made it hard for myself because I have used her name in most of my pc passwords at work. Every time I login to my pc I remember her. sigh.

I miss Smoogles. She was a cool kat.

Tuesday, December 2

Okay here I am in the little internet cafe , 'cos our computer is still dumb,
I would just like to say that it is kinda nice to be here for the people watching quality's of internet cafe's even though the constant hum of numerous computers and the Electromagnetic Fields always give me a headache, and as you leave you realize that your head spins as though the screen has dissolved even more brain cells,

anyway I do believe that summer may just be upon us and going by the traditions of years gone by I will embark on the yearly journey over to where the Golden sands originated, Golden Bay at the top af the south island to rejoice in the year gone by and bring in the new year with energy and thankfulness to being alive .Our destination is Visionz

Vision is a celebration of music, art, ideas and fun. It happens where the land meets the sea - at the base of Farewell Spit, Golden Bay, Aotearoa/New Zealand; from the 30th of December 2003 until the 2nd of January 2004.

For four days and three nights, the Robinsons; big, beautiful bush-fringed farm becomes a giant camp-ground for families, freaks, straights, greenies, hippies, farmers, rugby players and grandparents alike. Their aim is to see in the New Year amid some of the finest live and electronic music, perfomance and atmosphere to be found anywhere - and to help make a difference.

Vision is organised by a Charitable Trust that aims to promote a sustainable future for this planet through the principles of organics, permaculture and co-operation. All proceeds from the party go towards funding projects both locally and nationally that will help achieve these aims. The Trust is run by volunteers, and is open to involvement and input from the community.

The Festival has happened each year since New Years Eve 2000/2001, and has gained a solid reputation for its good vibe, great location and wicked entertainment. Last

As well as being able to absorb musical and visual delights, a participant at Vision will be able to join fun, educational Workshops ranging from harakeke weaving to alternative energy. The festival also has a policy of ZeroWaste, and we encourage everyone to help us by reducing the waste they create. Some practical ways to do this are: bring your own cup, spoon and plate to use at cafes, use our recycling bins intelligently so that the waste-stream can be reduced, and cut down on products that create waste through packaging. Vision aims to be more than just another music party: it's a conscious demonstration of our will to change the way we live.

I feel a little bit odd going to this as a punter, and not having being involved in the festival somewhere along the line .
Yes david is coming with me and i am relising the chance to be the one introducing him to such an event, and in true style to fit with this journey we are traveling by tactful hitch-hiking/bus etc to make use of all the time traveling as a time to meet, learn about other people, (one of my favorite things) yay the excitement is building.........
all and sundry are welcome to our place on wednesday night. Bring a dish of food or maybe even not. any time after 5:30 is a welcome time. Forecast = sunny. bling bling yourself over. maybe evens I will have a showing of the E X T E N D E D version of The Two Towers.
Recipie for a Fun Day in the Sun:
1 x Summer Sun
7 x Beatalicious BlackSeeds
thousands x Funny Faces
mix with lots of Crackinglyhot Concrete

Wellington is a pretty special city and it enjoyed a special day yesterday. The ROTK world premier was no small event. Was good to be a part of it indeed. Pretty tired though. We stayed out at Taranaki Wharf to watch a free outdoor screening of the Two Towers. That started at 10pm so we got home at 1:30. I want to go to my bed right now...

On a sadder note, my favourite cat of all time was put to rest yesterday. She was 14 and a lot and was starting to 'struggle with things'. I now proclaim the 2nd of December a public holiday for all: Smoogles Rememberence Day. Lest we forget.
